The first official 10-year bottling from the Chichibu Distillery will be upon us in early November 2020.
Dubbed “The First Ten,” this is the first addition to Chichibu’s regular (i.e. non-exclusive, non-single cask) lineup since 2019’s On The Way.We don’t have an exact date, but it should drop in the early part of November.
In terms of tasting notes, the company says a bright and fruity nose pulls us into a smooth honey-like palate, then leads to a long fresh green finish. Some of the malt that went into making this bottle was grown in Chichibu, too.
Chichibu Distillery kicked off their distilling in February 2008, meaning they’ve been at it for over 12 years now. Indeed there are already 10+ year bottles out in the wild, but these are all one-offs and exclusives.
The First Ten is bottled at 50.5% abv, and 5000 bottles will be sold. Get your wallet ready because it will be 19,800 yen after tax.
We also know at least some bottles of this release are US-bound thanks to the TTB disclosure back in August. It’s unclear whether the US gets a portion of the 5000 bottles or a different 5000 bottles, but my guess is the former. Good luck!
