Hot on the heels of their announcement of the demise of Taketsuru 17, 21, and 25 age-statement malt whiskies, Nikka has just announced the renewal of their NAS Taketsuru.
The new NAS Taketsuru apparently uses a higher portion of Yoichi malt, giving it a heftier and peatier character. In order to make the most effective use of what little aged stocks they have, Nikka says, they will limit this one to 264,000 bottles per year.
The rumor mill is of course in full operation — some saying that part of the reason for this renewal is so Nikka can incorporate malt whiskies imported from their Ben Nevis Distillery in Scotland into this. Who knows if they’re true or not?
Expect to see it drop on March 31, 43% abv, for 4000 yen before tax.
