When the Ritz says “whisky flight” you can assume it will be in first class.
The latest out of the 45th floor Tokyo Midtown “The Bar” at The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo is a (very) Premium Japanese Whisky Flight that is seemingly a summary of Japanese whisky hype:
- Ichiro’s Malt & Grain The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo Limited Edition (15ml)
- Karuizawa 1988 Single Cask The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo Private Label (15ml)
- Yamazaki 1996 The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo Limited Edition (15ml)
Each whisky is served with a paired chocolate, and the set runs 65,000 yen before service and tax.
65,000 yen perhaps sounds like an absurd amount of money to pay for only 45ml of whisky and some chocolate, but a) they are exclusive bottles of premium Japanese whisky brands and b) this is the Ritz-Carlton we’re talking about. The same bar serves one of the world’s most expensive cocktails, the Diamonds Are Forever Martini with a 1ct diamond. The same bar that sells bottles of that 1988 Karuizawa for 2.5 million yen! The same bar that gave away bottles of the 1996 Yamazaki for “free” a mere six years ago.
