Japan is finally getting its own international spirits competition! The “Tokyo Whisky and Spirits Competition” will be held for the first time ever in March 2019.
Craft distilleries are popping up everywhere worldwide, and Japan is no exception. We’ve seen great ratings given to Japanese whiskies and spirits at the likes of IWSC and the San Francisco, so it makes sense that Japan gets its own spirits competition. I’m interested to see how Japanese whisky and spirits experts judge the best of what the world has to offer.
We’ll have more details as the date gets closer. For now, mark your calendars for March 11-12, 2019! The event is being put on by the Japan Whisky Research Centre, and will be held at Ebisu’s EBiS303.

Do you know when the result of this will be released?
Hi Fiachra,
The first round of results (gold, silver, bronze awards) is slated for early April announcement. The second round (trophies, special awards, Best Of awards) are due for mid-May.
I checked out the competition myself (as press), so will be posting a brief photo report soon.
