The latest in Hombo Shuzo’s lineup of butterfly series of single malt, single cask whiskies is Le Papillon A. hippia japonica, named after the “fairy of the deep mountains.” This is a fairly young whisky being distilled in January 2014 at Mars Shinshu Distillery, then bottled at cask strength in November 2017. It’s non-peated and aged in a virgin American white oak cask. That cask yielded 585 bottles, available from March 14 for 9720 yen before tax. Already sold out at Rakuten, by the way!
