In yet another sign that 2017 is the year of Japanese gin, Mandarin Oriental Tokyo will have a pop-up bar specializing in the spirit during the whole month of November.
On the 37th floor of the Mandarin is the Sense Tea Corner, playing host to the pop-up bar (note: the pop-up bar is not at the Mandarin Bar). They’ll have Suntory Roku, Craft Gin Okayama, and Wa Bi Gin available straight from 2000 yen. Notably missing is Nikka Coffey Gin, but oh well, I guess we can’t have everything.
Also available are four cocktails that highlight the gin offerings:
- Mitarashi features a base of Roku gin mixed with mitarashi paste, topped off with a float of tofu whipped cream
- Zen Garden is all about sencha, with sencha-infused Roku and an in-house sencha cream
- Smoked peach pot uses Okayama gin infused with Mandarin Oriental Blend tea (a blend of oolong tea and vermouth, peach juice/puree, and is served in an enclosed tea pot with smoked tea leaves
- Wabisabi is based on honey ginger and yuzu botanicals, Wa Bi Gin, and accented with shiso and kumquat.
A flight of all 3 gins is also available for 2700 yen.
