Looks like Nikka has been busy of late. They’ve just announced that later this month they’ll be releasing a barley shōchū dubbed “NIKKA the MUGI SHOCHU.”
This is a blended shōchū which is set to take advantage of Nikka’s extensive experience in distillation, aging, and blending. It will be a mixture of both a vacuum-distilled barley shōchū as well as a conventionally distilled barley shōchū which is aged in the same barrels Nikka has used for aging their heavily peated whiskies. The idea is to bring out the fruitiness of the barley and also the vanilla notes that come from a whisky cask aging.
Look for this to hit shelves in Japan on June 27.
